Discover the best of both worlds with Shine SC retreats

We ensure everyone gets to lead an empowered and fulfilling life with the support they deserve.

One of the most common myths or misconceptions surrounding disability or mental health challenges is that individuals with these lived experiences are limited to life on the sidelines.

At Shine Social and Communities, our experience has shown us that this is not true. That’s why it’s our mission to ensure that every individual who wishes to engage in society and the community has the means and support to do so.

We achieve this through a range of safe and engaging camps and holidays.

Our individual or group holidays endeavour to change the lives of the individuals we support.

We offer a wide range of supported holidays throughout the year that meets that needs all of the abilities.

Short-term accommodation (STA)

Short-term accommodation or STA, give individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy a change of scenery away from their home.

STA may include pairing you, or the person under your care, with a support worker for a short time. The support worker will tend to your personal needs, and this time may be spent in a group-based facility.

During your time in an STA, you or the person under your care can learn new skills, meet new people, and learn to become more independent. This experience is very valuable for people with disabilities who hope to live more independently in the future.

More than the accommodation itself, STA is about the support you receive while you’re living there.

Testimonials

Brian just “raved” about the wonderful time he had on the Fraser Island trip.  He has put his hand up for the next trip away with Shine!  He just loved the group of people who accompanied him, the camping experience, and appreciated the natural beauty of the island, activities and the sea life.  It was a positive experience. He did experience some anxiety at times but always felt supported by those around him.

I would like to thank all involved for providing such a wonderful time for Brian.

Wendy

Brian says he is still grinning from ear to ear. The staff were fantastic, it was well organised.

The trip blew him away and was something he will never forget.

Looking forward to future camps with Shine.
